Landon Donovan To Coach In Homegrown Game

The USMNT Legend will take the helm of the MLS Homegrown's on July 28

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

As the Major League Soccer All-Star Game is getting closer and closer some news dropped this morning as Daniel Boniface from The Denver Post is reporting that Landon Donovan will assume head coaching duties in Commerce City on July 28.

I know that Donovan gets a lot of grief from MLS fans (this one included) and for a retired player he gets more press then many current players, but the simple fact is this: Donovan is the greatest American male soccer player to ever lace up the boots and take the pitch.  It may not be fashionable to praise him, but Donovan's contributions go without saying.

The MLS All-Star Game will be a reunion of sorts as the MLS All-Stars will be coached by Colorado Rapids Gaffer Pablo Mastroeni with both Donovan and Mastroeni featuring in multiple World Cups together.

The Chipotle Homegrown Game will take place on July 28 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park against the U-20 side from Club America

So what do you think Rapids fans?  Are you excited about this news?  Let us know in the comments below!
