How to Watch: 2015 Gold Cup--Match Day One

The Gold Cup kicks off tonight with two matches

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Summer of Soccer just keeps getting better and better for footy fans in the United States.  After a scintillating run to the Women's World Cup title for the United States Women, the Men's team takes the pitch tonight as they look to defend their Gold Cup.  Remember, the USMNT won in 2013 which qualified for a spot in the playoff for the right to play in the 2017 Confederations Cup.  If the USMNT wins this tournament, they automatically qualify for the Confederations Cup without the need for a playoff.

Here is what is on tap for the Gold Cup for Match Day One:

Panama vs Haiti

Match Date/Time: Tuesday, July 7 at 5:00 PM MDT

Venue: Toyota Stadium--Frisco, Texas

TV Information: Fox Sports 2 and Univision Deportes

Gold Cup Titles: Panama--NONE (finished second in 2005 and 2013).  Haiti--NONE

World Ranking: Panama--54th.  Haiti--76th

Thoughts: For Colorado Rapids fans this is a big game as Gabriel Torres was selected for the Panamanian National Team and there is a good chance he will feature as Panama looks to avenge their loss to the United States in the 2013 edition of the tournament.  In addition to Torres, Panama is led by FC Dallas striker Blas Perez and LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jamie Penedo.  As for Haiti, all Rapids fans can hope for is to see former Goalkeeper Stewart Ceus play and hopefully commit not have another howler as he did for the Rapids in 2013.

United States vs Honduras

Match Date/Time: Tuesday, July 7 at 7:30 PM MDT

Venue: Toyota Stadium--Frisco, Texas

TV Information: Fox Sports 1 and UniMas

Gold Cup Titles: United States--1991, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2013.  Honduras--NONE (finished second in 1991)

World Ranking: United States--27th.  Honduras--75th

Thoughts: Make no mistake, the United States is under a fair amount of pressure to win this tournament and it starts with Honduras tonight in Frisco.  Honduras did defeat the United States in CONCACAF qualifying in 2013 but ultimately this is a game that the USA should win.  They are playing in friendly confines in Frisco, and to be blunt, the USA is a better team.  Honduras does have Boniek Garcia, but the USA has a quality advantage and is on a run after defeating the Netherlands, Germany and Guatemala.
