MLS Viewing Guide, Week 21

An off-week for the Burgundy Boys does not mean a lack of great match-ups in Major League Soccer.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The final set of games before the 2015 MLS All-Star game kicks off tonight when SKC visits RSL in a critical Western Conference Clash.  In addition to SKC and RSL, there are a number of other important games including Portland at Dallas.

Here is your MLS Viewing Guide for Week 21:

Off This Week: Colorado Rapids and New York Red Bulls

Friday, July 24

Real Salt Lake vs Sporting Kansas City--Rio Tinto Stadium--9:00 PM MDT  (UniMas)

RSL stopped the rot last weekend with a victory at home, but face a very different animal in SKC.  Sporting is playing like the class in the league and I am just not buying that RSL is all that great right now.  SKC win.

Saturday, July 25

Columbus Crew SC vs Toronto FC--MAPFRE Stadium--5:30 PM MDT  (MLS Live)

The Crew are riding a three game winning streak and TFC is just waiting to be back at full strength for the final couple of months of the year.   Both of these teams look like playoff squads, so this will be a good barometer of where each team will be.  Crew win

Montreal Impact vs Seattle Sounders--Stade Saputo--6:00 PM MDT  (MLS Live)

Wow.  It is not everyday you see form for Seattle that looks like this:  LWLLLWLL.  They are a mess right now, but it will be OK as their stars will be coming back in August.  This will be a loss for them, but the light is at the end of the tunnel.

Chicago Fire vs New England Revolution--Toyota Park--6:30 PM MDT  (MLS Live)

The Fire are a mess right now and the Revs may be slowly pulling out of their funk.  Call this one a draw.

FC Dallas vs Portland Timbers--Toyota Stadium--7:00 PM MDT   (MLS Live)

Game of the week for me and this should feature some of the best football in MLS.  Both of these teams could potentially represent the West in MLS Cup.  And they are separated by three points.  This will be a good one but one where the home team grabs a winner to push 6 points in front of the Timbers.

Houston Dynamo vs LA Galaxy--BBVA Compass Stadium--7:00 PM MDT  (MLS Live)

This is the "meh" match of the week for me.  The Dynamo suck and LA is just so much better.  LA win on the road.

Sunday, July 26

New York City FC vs Orlando City--Yankee Stadium--12:30 PM MDT  (Fox Sports 1)

Well, this could be the debut of some guy named Lampard and OCSC will be looking to get back on the winning track after losing at home last weekend.  A win for NYCFC would put them level on points in the East with Orlando City.  Call this a W for NYC

D.C. United vs Philadelphia Union--RFK Stadium--3:00 PM MDT  (ESPN2)

D.C. United at home against a resurgent Philly team.  I really like this matchup and Philly will surprise on the road and grab a well deserved tie.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Jose Earthquakes--BC Place--5:00 PM MDT  (MLS Live)

San Jose needs this match to climb closer to the Red Line in the West, but going on the road in Vancouver is going to be tough for them and the Caps get the W.
