July is a quiet month for the Colorado Rapids as they only take the field three times in the month and if they want any hope of getting back into the playoff race, they need to win all three matches. Of course, nothing will be easy for the team as they take on their arch rivals and two of the top teams in the Western Conference.
No pressure Lads.
And although this season is, for all intents and purposes, over from a playoffs perspective, there is still plenty to play for and for Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni, he is literally playing for his job.
Here is the Rapids schedule and prediction for July:
Saturday, July 4 at 7:00 PM MDT--Vancouver Whitecaps--Dick's Sporting Goods Park--Altitude TV
As I write this the Caps and the Rapids are separated by a whopping 17 points in the table and when you take into account the controversial goal called back for the Caps, you could argue it should be more. The Rapids will be coming into this one having not won a game since that game against the Caps on May 23 and have somehow managed to regress since that point. The Caps on the other hand have won three in a row and have four wins in their last five. They are the inform team and this will prove to be disappointing for the home side as the Caps run out of Commerce City with a 2-0 victory over the Rapids.

That missed penalty kick....When Dillon Powers missed that PK against RSL last month it was the perfect example of the Rapids season. So close and yet so damn far. If the Rapids convert that kick they would certainly still be in last place, but they would be in a much better place mentally. RSL will be missing some key contributors in this match due to Gold Cup play, but I do not think it will harm them enough for the Rapids to win this match. The Burgundy Boys play is so bad right now that I cannot actually pick them in this match despite being at home and this being the only thing that they have left to play for in 2015. Rapids and RSL draw 0:0
Saturday, July 18 at 8:00 PM MDT--Seattle Sounders--Century Link Field--Altitude TV
Seattle is in the same boat as RSL and will be missing some players for the Gold Cup, but they have such quality that it will not matter. Seattle wins going away in this one 4:1
I know this is especially harsh from me, but I look at the Rapids form, their opponents and the level of disarray in Commerce City and I do not see them getting a victory this month. I truly hope I am wrong, and I will happily eat some humble pie if I am, but right now....I just don't see it.
