On Monday night Major League Soccer announced the All-Star Fan XI and Commissioners picks for the 2015 All-Star Game to be played at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on July 29 vs Tottenham Hotspur. This is a massive event for the Colorado Rapids, the city of Commerce City and the city of Denver and will be featuring some of the bigger names in MLS. Without further adieu, here are the All-Star Fan XI and Commissioners Picks:
Nick Rimando, Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, DaMarcus Beasley, Kaka, Michael Bradley, Benny Feilhaber, Graham Zusi, Clint Dempsey, David Villa, Obafemi Martins, Steven Gerrard (commissioner pick), Frank Lampard (commissioner pick)
Seriously Don Garber? You name two players WHO HAVE YET TO PLAY AN MLS MINUTE TO THE TEAM. WHAT A JOKE. How about Sebastian Giovinco? Was he not worthy? Shame on you Garber. Shame on you.
But, I digress.
Eight players from each MLS club were nominated for selection into the All-Star team with supporters voting for their favorite/most deserving players. From there the top ten vote getters will be in the All-Star XI including one forward who will be the 11th player. This 11th player will be the MLS player who scored the most goals on EA Sports FIFA 2015.
Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni will be coaching the All-Star team and will make decisions on a Starting XI and formation based on the needs of the match and fitness, so take these names with a slight grain of salt and not necessarily the starting XI. The rest of the All-Star team will be selected by Mastroeni and will be announced this Saturday.
In addition to the All-Star game on the 29th, the MLS Homegrown Game will take play on July 28 at DSGP at 7:00 PM MDT. This will feature MLS Homegrown players vs Club America's U-20 team. Rapids players Dillon Serna and Shane O'Neill could feature for the Homegrown's.
