2015 Gold Cup: Match Day Seven Preview

The final match in Group A play is this evening as the United States looks to gear up for the Quarterfinals

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The United States Men's National Team wraps up group play tonight with nothing to play for as they have clinched qualification into the quarterfinals and have won their group.  But for the other three teams, Haiti, Honduras and Panama, there is all to play for and the three of them still have a chance at qualification

The Group A Table

Points Win Loss Tie GD
United States 6 2 0 0 +2
Panama 2 0 0 2 0
Honduras 1 0 1 1 -1
Haiti 1 0 1 1 -1

(Honduras is in third by nature of their superior goals for number)

How to Watch:  Haiti vs Honduras

Match Date/Time: Monday, July 13 at 5:00 PM MDT

Venue: Sporting Park--Kansas City, Kansas

TV Information: Fox Sports 1/UniMas/Univision Deportes Network

The Road So Far: Haiti--DRAW vs Panama (1-1) and LOSS vs United States (0-1).  Honduras--LOSS vs United States (1-2) and DRAW vs Panama (1-1)

Thoughts: Of the two final matches, this is the one that is most exciting.  Both of these teams (depending on other results) could finish second in the Group A table so I completely expect them to go for it.  Haiti was better than the United States for large portions of their match and were incredibly unlucky to pluck a result.  And Honduras played the USA very tight as well and needed a late goal to snag a point against Panama.  That being said, Honduras is the better team in this encounter and I suspect that they will grab a victory which should place them second in the group.

How to Watch:  Panama vs United States

Match Date/Time: Monday, July 13 at 7:30 PM MDT

Venue: Sporting Park--Kansas City, Kansas

TV Information: Fox Sports 1/UniMas/Univision Deportes Network

The Road So Far: Panama--DRAW vs Haiti (1-1) and DRAW vs Honduras (1-1).  United States--WIN vs Honduras (2-1) and WIN vs Haiti (1-0)

Thoughts: The United States has nothing to play for in this matchup as they have won their group.  But that does not mean they are not going to trot out a lineup that will play for all three points which I fully expect them to do here.  As for Panama, this tournament has been a massive disappointment as they have drawn both of their matches.  Panama has surrendered the equalizing goal in both of their matches after the 80th minute which is a characteristic of a team that you do not want.  And now they play the best team in all of CONCACAF.  Is there hope for them?  Certainly, and they may not necessarily need a result to qualify for the quarterfinals, but they only way they secure their place in the Quarterfinals is a win.  And I just don't see that happening.
