The Colorado Rapids are looking to put their league struggles behind them and find redemption in the US Open Cup Tournament. Houston Dynamo will host the Rapids on Tuesday evening as both clubs look to book a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Colorado defeated the Colorado Springs Switchbacks 4-1 in the 4th round at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on June 16th. Two goals from Dillon Serna and strikes from Dominique Badji and Joseph Greenspan saw the Rapids see off the Switchbacks of the USL.
Houston defeated the Austin Aztex 2-0 on June 17th at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo were victorious courtesy of Leonel Miranda and Ricardo Clark finding the scoresheet as the visiting Aztex of the USL bowed out of the competition.
The US Open Cup is realistically the only way the Rapids can find solace in a season that has recently gone from bad to worse. The Rocky Mountain side have only won twice in the league this season and the club are currently in last place in the Western Conference. A win over Houston could be a boost as the Rapids will play Vancouver at home on Independence Day.
