Match Day nine in the 2015 World Cup is done and dusted and four more teams confirmed their spots into the Knock Out round including the United States who moved on by winning their group.
I also attended two matches in Edmonton and will have a look back at that experience later this week.
Your Match Day Nine Recap:
Ecuador 0:1 Japan--Winnipeg, Manitoba
The defending World Champions were able to win their group with a tight victory over a resilient Ecuador team and will wait to see who they play against on June 23. Japan finished 3-0-0 in their group and look ready for a run at another title whereas Ecuador did not win a match and finished with a goal differential of -16.
Switzerland 1:2 Cameroon--Edmonton, Alberta
This was an exciting match as the Swiss took a 1-0 lead and looked to be in cruise control, but Cameroon quickly grabbed one early in the second half and at that point sent wave after wave of attackers to grab a second. They were rewarded and with the victory they advanced to the knock out round. As for the Swiss, they will need to wait for other results to see if they advance.
United States 1:0 Nigeria--Vancouver, British Columbia
The USWNT scoring woes continue but the one goal they got was enough for them to win their group and avoid a nasty trip to Moncton. Abby Wambach picked up the game winner and the Americans advance to the knock out round and have a match in Edmonton on the 22nd.
Australia 1:1 Sweden
Remember when people were saying Sweden was a World Cup favorite? Yeah, I do and I am not impressed with them after their third drab draw in a row. Australia was by far the better team and should have won this match. Regardless, the Matilda's are advancing to the knock out round and Sweden needs to wait on other results to see if they advance.
Tomorrow four more matches are on tap:

England vs Columbia--Montreal, Quebec--2:00 PM MDT
