Well, let's hope that Clint Irwin and Zac MacMath stay healthy for Colorado Rapids.

On Friday, the Charlotte Independence announced that their starting goalkeeper, John Berner, would be out 6-8 weeks due to injuries he sustained in a May 27 match.  If you remember the Independence were playing the Carolina RailHawks of the NASL in the third round of the US Open Cup.  Berner charged out in the first half and took a knee to his head and suffered some pretty nasty injuries:

This is a pretty significant injury for Charlotte as they had just transferred Diego Restrepo to Venezuela and were thin in the depth department at goalkeeper.  They were able to sign Hunter Gilstrap from Carolina on loan and you have to think he will be the starting keeper until Berner is healthy.  The 6-8 week timeline could have Berner out until early August.

As for the Rapids, this leaves Irwin and MacMath to man the posts, but so far Irwin has played every minute of the season and MacMath is more than a capable back-up and could/should be a starter in this league.

Here is hoping Berner makes a swift recovery and he does his best to avoid errant knees in the head in the future
