The United States Mens National Team takes the pitch for the second to last time before beginning the 2015 Gold Cup when they travel to Cologne, Germany to take on the World Cup Champs. This will be a great test for the boys in the Red, White and Blue as they look to build upon their thrilling 4-3 come from behind victory against Netherlands last week.
What to Watch For:
1) Defense, Defense, Defense: Although the match against the Netherlands was won, there were still some glaring problems facing the USMNT, mainly on the defensive end. You cannot rely on your offense to score you four goals and they will need to be more compact and keep their shape better.
2) Germany, the ultimate test: Germany will truly pose the greatest test for the United States as they prepare for their defense of their Gold Cup title. Yes, Germany is missing a few key cogs, but you do not win the World Cup without some impressive depth. Regardless of who is put out there, the USA is going to get everything they can handle.
3) Does the result matter? Honestly, that is a great question. You certainly want to win every match, but the preparation, the experience and the formation is the most critical for the USA. Sure, beating Germany would be great, but it is more important that improvement is shown (especially along the back line).
