The Colorado Rapids will look to get back to winning ways as the team will do battle with the Portland Timbers on Saturday evening. Both teams had mid-week fixtures to deal with and the Rapids will be glad to return to the friendly confines of Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Colorado (2-3-7, 13 points) were on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders on Wednesday night at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Marco Pappa scored the only goal of the game in the first half after a poor clearance attempt by Jared Watts found Pappa who scored a beautiful curling effort over a diving Clint Irwin. Luis Solignac and Kevin Doyle had good chances in the first half, but the Rapids were unable to find the scoresheet.
Portland (4-5-4, 16 points) are coming off a 1-0 win over DC United at Providence Park on Wednesday evening. Maximiliano Urruti scored the only goal against a shorthanded DC United side. Timbers midfielder Will Johnson made his first start since recovering from a broken leg. Portland has a tough task on Saturday as they have never won in Colorado.
The Rapids will be without Dillon Serna and Shane O'Neill as both players are representing the United States U-23 side in the Toulon Tournament. The USA defeated the Netherlands 3-1 on Friday and Dillon Serna started the match while Shane O'Neill entered the game as a substitute.
