YES! It has finally happened as Charlotte Independence picked up their first victory by the score of 1-0 over previously undefeated Louisville City FC. For the Independence this was a watershed moment in the franchise. They had been close in previous matches, but could not find a winner. That is now a thing of the past and with the Colorado Rapids picking up their second draw on their brutal road trip, it was a good weekend for the #OneClub.
1) The Sigh of Victory: In the Independence there seemed to be a massive sigh of relief as they took the lead and eventually saw the match out. It was a great thing to witness late Saturday night and early Sunday morning (when I watched the match). I could not be happier for the club, their supporters and everyone who follow the club.
2) The Sigh of the Draw: As for the Rapids, they finished their brutal road trip with a 0-0-2 record with two important 1-1 draws over New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy. There is much good from these two matches, but the Rapids have to feel that they left points on the pitch. Will the missed opportunities come back to haunt the club? We really won't know until the season ends.
3) The Sign of the Injury: Rapids player Marlon Hairston left the match this Saturday ion the 39th minute with what looked like a head injury. Hopefully it is not serious as Hairston is important to both the Independence and the Rapids as both clubs move forward.
The Independence next take the pitch on Friday, May 8 at 5:30 PM MDT against Richmond Kickers at Winthrop University while the Rapids play San Jose Earthquakes at home on the 8th as well at 8PM MDT.
