For the Colorado Rapids and Charlotte Independence it was a weekend filled with positive results as the Rapids were able to grab their first home win since 2014 and the Independence ground out a solid draw on the road. The victory left the Rapids at 2-2-7 on the year and with the tie, the Independence brought their record to 2-3-3.
1) The Rapids on Loan: John Berner got another start for the Independence and recorded one save on two shots on goal. For Berner, it was nice to see him player since he was battling a knock that forced him out of his last match. In addition Carlos Alvarez played 33 minutes and registered a shot on goal.
2) A Missed Call or Justified Luck: Some Vancouver Whitecaps fans will say they got screwed. Some Colorado Rapids fans will say they were lucky. Regardless of whether the ref got it right the Rapids were due to have some good luck and I am completely OK with the Caps goal being called back.
3) A Busy Week Ahead: The Rapids have two matches this week in MLS play (at Seattle Sounders on Wednesday and vs Portland Timbers on Saturday) and the Independence are at Carolina RailHawks (NASL) in US Open Cup play. For the Rapids they have a great opportunity to get into playoff position and for Charlotte a victory would mean a chance to play in the fourth round of the Cup against New England Revolution.
A lot of positivity from the #OneClub this week as some crucial results were obtained. Will it continue as the season turns towards summer? Time will tell, but for one week, things feel pretty darn good for the #OneClub.
