Twenty US Open Cup Matches.

One MSL Match.

One Canadian Championship Match.

For a Colorado Rapids supporter, it was pretty much nirvana last night and keeping up with it all was a challenge, but it was oh, so worth it.

There were two matches in particular that I was keeping an eye on, one in Colorado Springs and one in Charlotte:

Charlotte Independence (USL) 4:1 Upward Stars (NPSL)

The Independence played their first US Open Cup match in team history and came away with a solid 4-1 win over the Upward Stars of the NPSL.  The Independence were led by a hat trick by Tomasz Zahorski and the match featured two assists from Ben Newnam (recently on loan to the Independence from the Rapids) and a start from Rapids midfielder Carlos Alvarez.  With the victory, the Independence travel to Cary, North Carolina next Wednesday to play NASL side Carolina RailHawks.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (USL) 2:1 Harpo's FC (USSSA)

The dream is over for Harpo's FC from Boulder as they dropped a 2-1 decision to our neighbors to the south, Switchbacks FC.  The Switchbacks went up 2-0 through the first half and although Harpo's FC was able to grab one in the second half, they were unable to find an equalizer.  They did have their chances, and after the Switchbacks were reduced to ten men (through a red card) the pressure intensified, but ultimately, it was a road too far and Switchbacks FC move on to play Real Monarchs of the USL next Wednesday in Sandy, Utah.

Today at 5PM the US Open Cup 4th round draw will be streamed live and that will allow us to see if our Rapids get a home match and who they will play:
