#OneClub Report: Rain, Rain Go Away

New, 1 comment

Not a great weekend for winning soccer for the #OneClub as Charlotte dropped a road match and the Rapids were unable to play due to weather.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

For the Colorado Rapids and Charlotte Independence this was a weekend of missed opportunities as both clubs were unable to grab all three points, albeit for very different reasons.  For the Independence they dropped a 2-0 decision to Harrisburg City Islanders and the Rapids did not play due to some pretty damn nasty weather in Kansas City.

Some observations:

1)  An Injury For Charlotte: Rapids loanee John Berner was subbed off at halftime with what looked to be a knee injury and it meant for the first time this season that Berner did not play the full 90.  No word on his status for next weekend but hopefully it is nothing major:

2)  Finishing Woes: Charlotte had a good bit of the ball against Harrisburg City, but could not do much with that possession.  Individual statistics are not readily available, but from what I saw, the Independence had the ball and seemed to do well with it, but just could not find that final touch or pass to find the back of the net.

3)  Weather in KC--A Blessing In Disguise: The weather, in a word, was crappy at Sporting Park.  Torrential downpour and significant lightning led to the weather delay and ultimate postponement.  No word yet as to when they will play this one, but this could be a blessing for the Rapids.  The week off gives Kevin Doyle and extra week to get ready and Luis Solignac more time to acclimate to his new team and surroundings in Denver.

A busy week ahead for Charlotte as they have two matches:  Wednesday at home vs Upward Star of the NPSL in the US Open Cup (5:30 PM MDT kick-off) and on Saturday at Charleston Battery (5:30 PM MDT kick-off)

As for the Rapids, they are home this weekend against Vancouver Whitecaps in a match that features clubs separated by 10 points in the table.  Kick-off is scheduled at 7:00 PM MDT.
