Another early season rematch for the Independence as they look to build upon their three game unbeaten run.

After starting the season winless in their first three, the Charlotte Independence will be looking to make it four games unbeaten on the spin as they make the trip to play the Islanders of Harrisburg City.  It has been a nice bit of form for our affiliate in Charlotte as they have not surrendered a goal in over two matches and are outscoring their opponents 5-1 during this run.  Things seem to be shaping up nicely in the Queen City after a slow start.

Here is the USL Eastern Conference Table:

Points Games Played W L D
Rochester Rhinos 20 8 6 0 2
Charleston Battery 17 8 5 1 2
Richmond Kickers 15 8 4 1 3
Louisville City FC 12 7 3 1 3
Harrisburg City Islanders 10 6 3 2 1
Saint Louis FC 10 7 3 3 1
Charlotte Independence 8 6 2 2 2
Pittsburgh Riverhounds 8 7 2 3 2
New York Red Bulls II 8 8 2 4 2
Toronto FC II 7 7 2 4 1
Wilmington Hammerheads FC 5 8 1 5 2
FC Montreal 3 6 1 5 0

What To Watch For:

1) Three In A Row: Can the Independence make it three wins in a row?  Can they make it three USL Player of the Week awards in a row?  Can a Colorado Rapids loanee win a third consecutive player of the week?  Three seems to be a popular number in Charlotte right now and getting three points on the road would be massive.

2) Speaking of the Road: Road form is critical in football and when you look at the table it is clear that every point is going to be important moving forward.  A victory would push Charlotte into the double digit point area, but it is more vital that the club is able to get a point.  Harrisburg City is a team that has only played one home match, and you have to think their supporters are going to be up for this one.  Charlotte will need to bring its A game.

3) Defensive Cohesion: The big change for Charlotte from the start of the season and their current run has been their work on the defensive end.  The first three games, the Independence surrendered 7 goals.  Since that, just one.  John Berner has been excellent in goal, but it is more than just him.  The entire back line has played better....more cohesive.  This is not a shock as all they spent the first month working on shape and getting to know the tendencies of their fellow players.  The Islanders are fifth in goals scored in the East, so Charlotte could have their work cut out for them.
