US Open Cup Report: Harpo's FC Moving On

The amateur side from Boulder upset BYU Cougars to move on to the Second Round proper in the US Open Cup

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

It was not quite a Colorado Rapids vs Real Salt Lake match but anytime a club from the good side of the Rockies gets one over on our friends from the Wasatch, it is something to celebrate.  Yesterday, Harpo's FC, the amateur side from Boulder, defeated BYU Cougars of the PDL 0-0 (4-2) to advance to the second round of the US Open Cup.  With a scoreline of 0-0, it was obviously a defensive battle, but Harpo's were able to find their stride in the penalty kick shootout to advance.  And their reward for a win in Provo?

A trip to Colorado Springs.

Harpo's FC will take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on May 20 at 7:00 PM MDT at Sand Creek Stadium which should be an interesting test for the club from Boulder.  The Switchbacks are playing good soccer so far with a 3-4-0 record and just a point out of the playoffs in the USL Western Conference.

For our affiliate in Charlotte, the Independence are playing Upward Stars of the NPSL at 5:30 PM MDT next Wednesday as well.  The Independence will be at home for this match and it will be the lone home match for the Independence in the next four games as they embark on a three game USL road trip.

As for our Burgundy Boys, they join the tournament in the fourth round which will take place June 16 and 17.  No word on whether it is a home match or not, but I am kind of hoping it might be an all Colorado affair.
