The Colorado Rapids have a busy and difficult month ahead in the month of May with all six matches against the Western Conference and all of their opponents ahead of the Burgundy Boys in the table. Needless to say, we will have a good idea of the identity and quality of this squad after May
Here is the schedule and how I think it will turn out:
May 2: at LA Galaxy
This match comes on the back of a difficult game against New York Red Bulls and the Rapids will be traveling from NY to LA and this will make things difficult on them. But, they will have several fully rested starters to complete against the Galaxy, so it is not out of the question to see the Burgundy Boys pull out a result. Although, historically the Rapids have had trouble in Carson and I am going to predict a 2-1 loss for the Rapids.
May 8: vs San Jose Earthquakes
The Quakes are the Rapids Achilles heal and they simply cannot defeat this team. This could be a very emotional night for former Rapids player Marvell Wynne as he will be making his return to Commerce City. The streak against the Quakes needs to end at some point and I think this is the night it happens. 2-0 victory for the Rapids
May 16: at Sporting Kansas City
Sporting is a team that I really think has the ability to make noise and this should be a match that Sporting should win, but I think that the Rapids will scratch out a result in this one. 1-1 Draw
May 23: vs Vancouver Whitecaps
The Whitecaps are a very quality team, and they will come into Dick's Sporting Goods Park brimming with confidence. This should be a game that they would be able to win, but I think the Rapids will have begun to click into form and I believe they will get a late win. 1-0 victory for the Rapids
May 27: at Seattle Sounders
I have said this many times and I really believe it: the Sounders are the best team in the league. The Rapids will be going on the road to Century Link in the middle of three games in eight days. This should make it pretty easy for the Sounders. 3-0 loss for the Rapids
May 30: vs Portland Timbers
The Timbers and Rapids will be fighting for a playoff berth and regardless of where these two teams are at in the table, I get the sense that they will be close in points. This is a match that the Rapids will look back on as a missed opportunity at home. 2-2 Draw
So if I my predictions come true the Rapids would finish with a 2-2-2 record in May which would bring their regular season record to 3-4-7. What do you think? Am I being to optimistic or too critical? Hit us up in the comment section below!
