Friday was a popular night for the #OneClub as both Colorado Rapids and Charlotte Independence were in action and both games ended in 1-1 draws. For the Rapids it was against FC Dallas in Commerce City in a match that featured a goal from Nick LaBrocca and for the Independence it was against the Harrisburg City Islanders that had a goal from former MLS player Ryan Finley.
With the draw, the Rapids record stands at 1-2-4 (7 points) and they are 10th in the Western Conference Table. The Independence brought their record to 0-2-2 (2 points) which is good for 11th in the Eastern Conference USL Table.
1) Finishing and Chance Creation: For the Independence, they are generating plenty of chances on goal but are struggling with the final product. Against the Islanders, they out shot Harrisburg City 13 to 9 and shots on goal 5 to 2. This follows the trend that we saw in the last match where they lost 3-0, but put 10 shots on goal.
2) The Burgundy on Loan: Three Rapids players saw action for the Independence. John Berner put in a full 90 minute shot and recorded one save against two shots on goal. Marlon Hairston also played 90 minutes and had one shot on goal in his time, but really looked great for Charlotte. Caleb Calvert also saw time on the pitch, playing 13 minutes.
3) When Will The Win Come: For both the Rapids and the Independence, wins have been at a premium this season but there are certainly signs that the both clubs are on the right track. Is it frustrating with just one win between them? Hell yes, but it is early days yet and there is plenty of time to improve the finishing and move up the table.
The Independence are in action Saturday, May 2 at 5 PM MDT against Louisville City FC at home in Charlotte and will be live streamed. I will have a preview of that match later this week.
