How To Watch: Charlotte Independence at Richmond Kickers

The Independence take to the road for the second match in a row. This week they are at Richmond.

The Charlotte Independence take on Richmond Kickers in USL action this Saturday which should provide an excellent litmus test for where the Colorado Rapids affiliate is at.  The Kickers currently are third in the Eastern Conference table at 1-0-2 (5 points) and are coming off a 3-0 thrashing of Wilmington Hammerheads, a team the Independence tied 1-1.  The Independence are 0-1-1 (1 point) and sit tenth in the table.

What To Watch For:

1) Richmond, in a word, is Good: The Kickers are a deep and established team and have scored the third most goals in the Eastern Conference of USL.   And with the Kickers playing at home, this will provide for a supreme test for our affiliate.

2) Will The Rapids Loanees Play: A bit of scuttlebutt with the Rapids players that are on loan and whether they should be benched.  Caleb Calvert has shown well in the time that he has gotten and John Berner has started in goal for Charlotte, but there is some who are wondering if others should get time.  Ultimately it is up to Charlotte which of the four Rapids loanees will play (including Charles Eloundou and Marlon Hairston) but I have to think the four Lads will see significant time.

3)  This Could Be A Statement: The Independence have not yet won a game, but grabbing a road win against one of the better teams in USL would be a heck of thing for the club.  A loss would not be the end of the world, but a win would be a statement of intent to the rest of USL.
