Man. That felt GREAT!
Heck, I would have been OK if the Rapids broke their scoring duck against the Hoops, but to completely annihilate them on National TV? Simply priceless.
The 4-0 victory was as comprehensive of a win for the Colorado Rapids have had in a very long time and it is something to be celebrated. For an hour or two. Because the reality of the situation is this: Over the next four games they play Seattle Sounders, FC Dallas, New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy. Not a cupcake or easy game in the lot.
Here is the Good, The Bad, The Ugly from the FC Dallas match:
The Good: We can score! To see the goals going in was so wonderful and it was the most fun I have had watching the Rapids since, well, last July. The wave of relief on the faces of Dominique Badji, Dillon Powers, Gabriel Torres, and Dillon Serna was contagious and you could almost see the weight get lifted off their shoulders.
Bad Good: Very little bad in this match and the overall play showed. The midfield was good in their link of combinations and the defense was solid in limiting chances from the Hoops. Again, a terrific performance by the Rapids.
Ugly Concerning: Nothing bad from this match, but the painful reality is this: the Rapids are 1-1-3 on the year and sit ninth in the table. They have a brutal stretch coming up and I believe these next four games will tell us much about this team. Come away with a couple of victories and this is a team that can go places. Struggle, and they are in danger of falling out of the race early.
The Rapids next take the pitch this Saturday at 7PM MDT against the Sounders who are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Galaxy. Seattle, despite a slow start, is still the best team in this league and for the Rapids to get a result, they are going to need to play flawless soccer. Can they do it? Absolutely? Will they? It is time to find out.
