#OneClub Report: A Week Off In Charlotte

Our affiliate in Charlotte had the week off. But a week off does not mean a quiet week for the Independence.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

The United Soccer League is full swing and for our affiliate in Charlotte that means a busy time for the Independence as they continue to build their roster and tweet the lineup.  The Independence had the weekend off, and after three weeks, the club sits tenth in the Eastern Conference table with one point.  The current table:

Games Played Points Wins Losses Draws
Charleston Battery 3 9 3 0 0
Rochester Rhinos 3 7 2 0 1
Richmond Kickers 3 5 1 0 2
Louisville City FC 2 4 1 0 1
New York Red Bulls II 2 4 1 0 1
Pittsburgh Riverhounds 3 4 1 1 1
Saint Louis FC 3 4 1 1 1
Toronto FC II 3 3 1 2 0
Wilmington Hammerheads FC 3 2 0 1 2
Charlotte Independence 2 1 0 1 1
FC Montreal 2 0 0 2 0
Harrisburg City Islanders 2 0 0 2 0

Initial thoughts on the table:  The Independence are two games in and got a point on the road (1-1 at Wilmington) and loss to the class of the league (Charleston) 3-2 in their home opener.  Overall, not a terrible start and as the club is still adding players, this is not a bad thing.  And the top six make the playoffs and the Independence are only three points on that pace.  Nothing to worry about.

The Independence also made a few new signings since I last wrote this article as they look at strengthening their roster for 2015.  The new Lads:

Defender Bilal Duckett (formerly of Harrisburg City and Vancouver Whitecaps)

Forward Tomasz Zahorski (formerly of San Antonio Scorpions)

Midfielder Haminu Draman (formerly of Gil Vicente FC)

The first thought for Colorado Rapids fans is what does this mean for loanees Charles Eloundou, Caleb Calvert, John Berner and Marlon Hairston?  At this point it is difficult to imagine that this means much of anything right now.  The season is only two weeks old, but I would say this: the Rapids did not loan four players to Charlotte to have them ride the bench.  I have to think that all of them play significant minutes this year for the Independence.

The Independence next take the pitch on Saturday, April 18 at 5PM MDT on the road against the undefeated Richmond Kickers.  The match will be streamed live on YouTube and we will have our preview this Friday for this match.
