Today the Colorado Rapids announced that they made a move to bolster their attacking core by signing their fourth round MLS Superdraft pick, Dominique Badji. Badji comes to the Rapids from Boston University and had impressed the Rapids in the combine enough to take a chance on the young forward from Dakar, Senegal.
Badji had a good preseason playing as the striker in the Rapids 4-2-3-1 formation. He notched a goal in the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson and looked comfortable in that role and showed some of his pace and quickness on the pitch. Forward is a position that the Rapids are not overly heavy in depth with Gabriel Torres, Deshorn Brown, Caleb Calvert, Vicente Sanchez and Charles Eloundou as the options at this point. And with Sanchez playing more in a midfield role, there are chances for Badji to see time on the field this year. He certainly needs to work on his finishing and be more clinical with the ball near goal, but there is potential there and should make a nice addition to the Rapids.
