It seems like forever in-between Colorado Rapids matches in most weeks, but there is some International Footy to give us our soccer fix. The United States Mens National Team takes on Denmark in Aarhus today at 1PM and this will be an interesting match for our boys as they have been on a fairly poor run of form with some major tournaments, including the 2015 Gold Cup on the horizon.. Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann called in 23 players for this match (and another one against Switzerland on Tuesday) with Major League Soccer fairly well represented.
What To Watch:
Formations: The first thing that comes to mind is "what formation will the USMNT utilize for this matchup?" Will they go with the 3-5-2 that Klinsmann has been tinkering with? Will they drop into a 4-4-2 with Jozy Altidore and Aron Johannsson up front? Or will a 4-2-3-1 be the vogue formation of the day. Not sure anyone really knows.
Yedlin and Zardes: DeAndre Yedlin and Gyasi Zardes are two players that I am very interested in watching, but for different reasons. Yedlin has not played much since his move to Tottenham Hotspur and I am curious as to what his level of form is. His move makes me ask: "Is it better to ride the pine in the EPL or start in MLS." As for Zardes, I have been impressed with his skill and poise and the young LA Galaxy player is a real joy to watch.
Nick Rimando: Rimando is a hell of a goalkeeper and there are times I think he should start over Aston Villa's Brad Guzan. The Real Salt Lake keeper has this ability to steal points when he really has no business doing so and the USMNT plays extremely well when he is manning the goal.
