On the evening of the Colorado Rapids first home match of the season they announced that they had signed Irish International Kevin Doyle as the third Designated Player in franchise history:
For a team that went years without signing a DP they have made a major splash in the market with the signing of Juan Ramirez and now Doyle. This is a significant signing as one of the identified weaknesses in the Rapids has been that true goal scorer that they have not had since the departure of Conor Casey.
The addition of Doyle should make the job of Gabriel Torres a bit easier as he will be left to try and create rather then being looked at as the man to get the goals. Yes, Torres will be expected to score, but the arrival of Doyle will only help his development.
So what do you think Rapids fans? A third DP, a new jersey sponsorship and renewed optimism in Commerce City. Not a bad week for our Burgundy Boys.
