At the end of the 2014 Major League Soccer season the Colorado Rapids made a number of moves to improve their roster and with those moves, several players had their options declined for 2015. One of those players was the first Rapids Homegrown Player, Davy Armstrong. Today it was announced that he signed with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC of USL Pro.
When Armstrong was signed in August 2010 it was a watershed moment for the club. He was the first player by the Rapids to be signed as a Homegrown after spending three years in the Rapids academy. During his five seasons with the club he made three appearances, registering zero goals. In the final match of the 2014 season Armstrong was on the pitch at the same time as fellow HGP's Shane O'Neill and Dillon Serna. It was the first time in Rapids history that three HGP took the pitch at the same time.
Although Armstrong's on field contributions were not as significant as O'Neill or Serna, he will still be remembered fondly as the first Homegrown for the Rapids and was part of the 2010 MLS Cup winning squad.
