YES! We have a game to talk about!
Now, it was a preseason match so it is nothing to get all that excited about, but after a VERY long off-season and all of the changes that happened, it is so great to talk about an actual match. Although this one does not count in the standings, it was the first match that the Colorado Rapids won since July 2014. Regardless of who the opponent was, this is a good, good thing.
The Rapids were led with goals from Oscar Montoya in the 62nd minute and Dominique Badji in the 84th. This match was largely played with a reserve team but did feature débuts from Joe Greenspan, the Rapids second round MLS Superdraft pick out of Navy and Caleb Calvert, who was picked up from Chivas USA. Other familiar faces that played in Las Vegas included John Berner, Grant Van De Casteel, Sam Cronin, John Neeskens and Carlos Alvarez.
The Rapids next take the pitch on Sunday night at 8PM MST against San Jose Earthquakes before heading to Tucson, AZ to participate in the Desert Diamond Cup. In that tournament the Rapids will play Sporting Kansas City on February 18, New England Revolution on February 21, FC Tucson on February 25 and on February 28 have another match against a TBD opponent.
