Rebuilding the Rapids: Burgundy Boys Select Micheal Azira in Waiver Draft

The Rapids selected a midfielder in the Waiver Draft today

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rapids made a selection in the 2015 Major League Soccer Waiver Draft today as they took former Seattle Sounders midfielder Micheal Azira.

I know what you are saying:  who?

And what in the hell is a waiver draft.

OK...first off the waiver draft consists of players who have been waived by their clubs and are not eligible for Re-Entry or Free Agency.  Under contract players who are selected in the Waiver Draft will be automatically added to the drafting club's roster.

Secondly, Azira is a 28 year old Ugandan midfielder who made $60,000 in 2015 (according to MLS Salary figures) and has a total 30 appearances in two seasons (including playoffs) in MLS.

Based on the wording of the waiver draft, he is automatically maybe, probably added to the Rapids roster and joins a midfield that currently includes Marcelo Sarvas, Dillon Serna, Dillon Powers, Jared Watts, Juan Ramirez and Sam Cronin.

Here are his MLS Career Statistics:
