Major League Soccer announced today the home openers for all 20 teams and for the Colorado Rapids we now know the first three matches of 2016. Without further adieu:
Sunday, March 6 at 1:00 PM MDT at San Jose Earthquakes (Avaya Stadium)
Saturday, March 12 (Time TBD) vs LA Galaxy (Dick's Sporting Goods Park)
Saturday, March 19 (Time TBD) at D.C. United (RFK Stadium)
These three matches will pose supreme tests for the Rapids as they look to rebound from a difficult 2015 season but it will be a terrific barometer for the Rapids. There have been some significant changes this off-season, and the Rapids will look to get out of the gate quickly. A trip to San Jose to face the Quakes, who nearly made the playoffs in 2015, will be a great one to test the grit of the team.
And a home opener against the Galaxy will be a good way for the club to welcome back the fans and following that up with a trip to RFK....yikes. A tough run, but one that the Rapids will need to handle if they are serious about making waves in the Western Conference.
So what do you think Rapids fans? Are you excited for March 12th?
