I have to be honest, I did not see this one coming. When the loan deal expired for Zac MacMath I assumed (wrongly, it seems) that the Colorado Rapids were not going to pursue the Philadelphia Union player.
But that all changed today.
The Rapids announced this morning that they had acquired MacMath from the Union in exchange for a 2017 second round MLS SuperDraft pick.
Paul Bravo, Rapids VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director had this to say about MacMath:
Although he (MacMath) did not get that many minutes last season, Zac impressed us with his ability and his professionalism. The deal makes economic sense for us and he'll add good depth to our goalkeeping position.
With MacMath coming back, the goalkeeping position becomes more clear as the Rapids have Clint Irwin and John Berner joining MacMath under contract in 2016. The real question now becomes, how do you get minutes for all of these guys? Do you send someone to Charlotte? Or is there another trade in the works?
