Rapids' 2015 Schedule Released

The 2015 Regular Season schedule was released for the Burgundy Boys.

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

Today is a happy day for Major League Soccer fans in the United States and Canada as the 20th (can you believe it is 20) season schedule was released.

Time to plan your summer schedule Colorado Rapids fans!

The Rapids already knew who they would take on in their home-opener, the Frank Lampard-less New York City FC expansion team on March 21.  But with the release of the complete schedule, Rapids fans can truly plan for what will be an interesting and fun season in Commerce City.  Here is the schedule in full (times subject to change and my inability to possibly convert Eastern to Mountain Time):

7--at Philadelphia Union

21--vs New York City FC (2PM)

28--at Houston Dynamo

4--vs New England Revolution (5PM)

10--at FC Dallas

18--vs Seattle Sounders FC  (7PM)

24--vs FC Dallas (8PM)

2--at LA Galaxy

8--vs San Jose Earthquakes (8PM)

16--at Sporting Kansas City

23--vs Vancouver Whitecaps (7PM)

27--at Seattle Sounders FC

30--vs Portland Timbers (7PM)

7--at Real Salt Lake

19--vs FC Dallas  (7PM)

24--at Orlando City SC

27--at Sporting Kansas City

4--vs Vancouver Whitecaps  (7PM)

12--vs Real Salt Lake (5PM)

18--at Seattle Sounders FC

25--at New York Red Bulls

1--vs LA Galaxy  (7PM)

8--vs Columbus Crew SC  (7PM)

14--at San Jose Earthquakes

22--at Chicago Fire

26--vs Houston Dynamo  (7PM)

29--vs Sporting Kansas City (7PM)

9--at Vancouver Whitecaps

12--vs DC United  (7PM)

19--at Toronto FC

26--at Houston Dynamo

3--vs Real Salt Lake  (7PM)

10--vs Montreal Impact (7PM)

25--at Portland Timbers

At first glance, May and August are critical months for the Rapids.  They have six games in each month with seven at home.  They also don't have the brutal end to their schedule that they had in 2014 with four of their final seven against non-playoff teams.  June and July are tough with 5 of 8 games on the road with all of them, except one, against playoff teams.

The bottom line with this schedule:  The Rapids MUST make Dick's Sporting Goods Park a "fortress" and should look to pick up 10-12 wins at home.  Anything less than that will make the going tough for the Burgundy Boys in 2015.
