Some pretty exciting news trickled out today from US Soccer as it was announced that Colorado Rapids players Shane O'Neill and Dillon Serna were named to the 23 man roster for the United States Men's National Team friendlies against Chile and Panama.
The USMNT takes on Chile in Santiago on January 28 at 4PM MST and then return to the United States to play Panama on February 8 at 2PM MST at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.
Making the 23 Man roster is massive for both Serna and O'Neill. Along with getting the chance to play with the first team in these friendlies, there is also the 2016 Olympics in Rio on the horizon and both of them should feature in that tournament. Along with the Olympics in 2016, there is also the 2015 Gold Cup, and while it may be a longer shot to see O'Neill and Serna on that team, nothing should be ruled out.
This is especially great news for the Rapids. To have two players selected to play with the USMNT shows the direction and quality of the players that are coming out of Commerce City. Along with the MLS All-Star game being awarded to the Rapids and Commerce City/Denver, 2015 is shaping up to be an exciting time for the Boys in Burgundy.
