Zat Knight close to joining Colorado Rapids

It looks like only paperwork is standing in the way of the rumored transfer for former Bolton Wanderers captain Zat Knight.

Possibly the worst-kept secret in Major League Soccer over the last week or two was that former Bolton Wanderers captain Zat Knight would be joining the Colorado Rapids to add some experience and size to a back line that had been utterly destroyed during Colorado's seven-game losing streak. According to the Denver Post, only paperwork is currently standing in the way of the transfer finally being completed.

Bolton's captain for several years, Knight played 168 matches for Bolton during his five years with the club, getting minutes in both the Championship and the Premier League. The 6'6'' defender also has experience with Fulham and Aston Villa, and managed to get two caps with the England national team in 2005.

As it stands, Knight won't be available for selection against the Portland Timbers tomorrow, but he can probably be expected to be paired with a newly-healthy Shane O'Neill in the back for the rest of the season following the Portland match.
