The Colorado Rapids will be looking to reverse their fortunes as Chivas USA make their second and final trip to Dick's Sporting Goods Park. A cold and snowy Mother's Day in Denver turned disastrous for the home side as Colorado suffered a 3-1 loss to Chivas USA. To make matters worse, former Rapids players Marvin Chavez and Martin Rivero were the architects of Colorado's demise as both players were instrumental for the Rojiblancos.
Colorado (7-6-6) have fallen into a tie for 5th place in the Western Conference after a being on the wrong end of a 2-1 loss against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park last Friday. Deshorn Brown opened the scoring, but then suffered an injury in the first half. Portland scored two goals in the 2nd half, including a late wonder-strike from Diego Valeri to put Colorado to the sword.
Chivas USA (6-8-5) are near the foot of the Western Conference, but only four points back from playoff contention. The club has had off-field issues as Major League Soccer purchased the club from owner Jorge Vegara with the intention of selling to a buyer in the Los Angeles area. The plan is then to rebrand the club for the 2015 MLS season.
The playoff race has heated up in the Western Conference, and there is little room for error as Colorado looks to keep pace and stay in playoff contention. It is unclear whether Deshorn Brown will feature against Chivas USA as the Jamaica forward is recovering from a groin strain. The Rapids will welcome the return of Nick LaBrocca, Shane O'Neill and Vicente Sanchez after the trio are set to be eligible after serving suspensions.
