Colorado Rapids vs. Chicago Fire - Player Ratings

The Fresh Legs Player Rotation Policy (FLPRP) fails again as the Rapids tie the Fire in an utterly boring game.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

"And at 6PM a collective groan was uttered from all Colorado Rapids supporters."

That 6PM window... you know, an hour before kick-off and when starting lineups are released for a 7PM match.  And that was when Colorado Rapids released this starting lineup: John Berner, Thomas Piermayr, Shane O'NeillDrew Moor, Marc Burch, John Neeskens, Nick LaBroccaJared WattsCharles EloundouDanny MwangaMarlon Hairston.

It seems critical to knock these players as individuals, as they all bring something to the team.  And I do not necessarily fault them for the 0-0 tie against Chicago Fire on Wednesday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.  All players need to contribute for this team to be successful, but it is extremely frustrating after to blowout victories to see the Rapids lay the proverbial egg against an inferior opponent.  I respect the Fresh Legs Player Rotation Policy, and that everyone needs to contribute, BUT when you have a chance to pick up three points at home, you absolutely must do it.

Here is how I saw the match:

John Berner  7

Berner had very little to do and did not make a save on the evening.  But a clean sheet is a clean sheet.

Thomas Piermayr  7

Chicago offered little in the way of attack and the Rapids defense offered another clean sheet.  Piermayr, O'Neill, Moor and Burch were all solid on the evening.

Shane O'Neill  7

Chicago offered little in the way of attack and the Rapids defense offered another clean sheet.  Piermayr, O'Neill, Moor and Burch were all solid on the evening.

Drew Moor  7

Chicago offered little in the way of attack and the Rapids defense offered another clean sheet.  Piermayr, O'Neill, Moor and Burch were all solid on the evening.

Marc Burch  7

Chicago offered little in the way of attack and the Rapids defense offered another clean sheet.  Piermayr, O'Neill, Moor and Burch were all solid on the evening.

John Neeskens  6.5

Made his MLS debut playing in the midfield and looking comfortable slotting in on the right side.  He had good movement and aided the Rapids in dominating in possession.

Nick LaBrocca  6.5

Put in his typical solid, not flashy, 90 minutes of work.  Had a shot (off target) and was the main corner taker for the Rapids.  His service was good on the corners, but was let down at times as the forwards were unable to do much with it.

Jared Watts  6.5

Watts continues to play beyond his rookie status.  Another solid day at the office for the rookie, however he did pick up a yellow card late in the match.

Charles Eloundou  6.5

Eloundou had a good game, but sometimes he tries to get too cute with the ball and his footwork and denies himself a better look on goal.  Had a blast in the first half that forced a nice save.

Danny Mwanga  4

It is a broken record, but 59 minutes of action and no shots on goal is not something that a starting striker should be doing.  A disappointing effort from Mwanga.

Marlon Hairston 6

Like most of the Rapids team, he was able to get up and down the pitch.  But like the rest of the team, he was not able to turn this into goals.

Substitutions

Deshorn Brown  6.5

Brown came on for Mwanga and was able to generate half of the Rapids shots on goal on the night (granted the team only had two).  Provided a spark to the team, but was unable to put one in the net.

Dillon Powers  6.5

An unspectacular shift for Powers who played the final 22 minutes of the match.  I expect him to start on Saturday.

Dillon Serna  6.5

Serna was brought on late to provide that offensive spark that had been missing all match, but was unable to find that late winner.
