Three Potential Summer Targets For Colorado

After reports about the Rapids focusing their transfer efforts in South America, today's Wave looks at three viable players currently plying their trade in the Argentina Primera Division.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Last week saw the emergence of multiple reports that delved into the details of what fans can expect from the Rapids in regards to summer transfers. In short? They are looking to add a couple of attack-minded players who are young, but experienced, and who can make a difference like Gaby Torres and Vicente Sanchez did last year. As stated in the articles mentioned above, the main target area has been South America; specifically Argentina and Uruguay.

With that in mind (and after tireless hours of research and attempted translations of obscure South American news sources), I've compiled a list of three Argentinian players (just not enough info on Uruguayan Primera players) that could fit the mold the Rapids are hoping to fill. Keep in mind this is complete speculation. The players, however, are very much in the realm of possibility based on price and ability. On to the names...

Pablo Vitti
Age: 28 (29 in July)
Current Club: Tigre (Argentina)

A versatile attacker who can play centrally or on the wings, Pablo Vitti hits the "Goldilocks zone" for everything the Rapids have said they want. He's an experienced player but, as he approaches 29 years of age, he still has multiple years left in him. If you have been an avid fan of MLS for some time, Vitti's name might sound familiar. Toronto FC grabbed him on loan from Independiente back in 2009. While he showed flashes of brilliance with his ball skills and impeccable movement, he never really hit his stride in Canada before his loan was over. His versatility and previous experience in MLS make him a viable target for Colorado. Watch him play HERE.

Sebastian Rusculleda
Age: 28
Current Club: Tigre (Argentina)

Staying in Argentina and with Tigre, the next target is Sebastian Rusculleda. He is slightly shorter, slightly faster, and slightly more specialized than his teammate, Vitti. Rusculleda is a left-sided midfielder who grew up in the prestigious Boca Juniors and Ajax youth systems. He enjoyed a productive spell at Tigre from 2007-2009, but has since jumped around before landing back with Tigre. He hasn't found as much playing time during his current stint, but boy does he have a wicked left foot. Watch him play HERE.

Mauricio Sperduti
Age: 28
Current Club: Arsenal (Argentina)

Yeah, not that Arsenal. The Argentinian/Italian Sperduti is a player who still hasn't reached his potential and could be due for a breakout. After many productive years with Newell's Old Boys, it looked like he finally caught his big break in 2013 when he reportedly signed a contract with Italian Serie A side Palermo until 2016. That's when things get tricky. From what I could tell using Google translator and a little intuition, it seems Palermo's boss was sacked just after Sperduti's arrival and they mutually agreed to resolve the contract. (If someone knows differently, please tell me.) He's now back in Argentina with Arsenal de Sarandi and could be looking for another move. He's got good pace and provides great service. Watch him play HERE.

There you have it, my picks for potential summer signings. Have any of your own? Let us know in the comments section.
