The Colorado Rapids will look to book their place in the US Open Cup Quarterfinal as they will do battle with NASL side Atlanta Silverbacks at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Tuesday night. Atlanta won in the 4th Round over Real Salt Lake, while Colorado defeated Orlando City.
Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni named a very strong side as Orlando City were given a rude welcome to the Centennial State as Deshorn Brown led the charge by scoring a hat trick in a 5-2 win over the future MLS club. Orlando plays in the USLPro, the third division of professional soccer in the United States and Canada, and were clearly outclassed by Colorado.
Atlanta Silverbacks play in the NASL, the second division which is just under Major League Soccer. The city of Atlanta was recently awarded an MLS franchise in April of 2014, and it appears the new club will play in a new stadium built for both Atlanta Falcons of the NFL, and the yet-unnamed Atlanta soccer team.
Should the Colorado Rapids win the match, they would play a third consecutive home match at Dick's Sporting Goods Park against either Columbus Crew, or Chicago Fire in the Quarterfinals. The Rapids have a looming MLS fixture against Vancouver Whitecaps at home on Saturday, so it is unclear whether Mastroeni will feature a strong side as compared to last week against Orlando.
