Colorado Rapids vs Orlando City - US Open Cup Game Preview

On Tuesday, June 17th, the Colorado Rapids will play host to USL Pro side Orlando City FC in the US Open Cup. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm and Colorado will look to exact revenge on the club that ousted them from the US Open Cup last season.

Orlando City will start play in Major League Soccer in 2015.

Orlando City are currently playing within the USL Pro, the third tier of the US Soccer pyramid. However, the Florida club will make the jump to Major League Soccer in 2015 after being awarded expansion on November 19th, 2013. Orlando City will be the 21st franchise, and the first to represent the State of Florida since 2001.

Colorado will see this 4th Round Cup fixture as a chance for redemption, as Orlando knocked out the Rapids at the same stage in the tournament last year in Central Florida. The USL Pro side will have to play in the high altitude of the Denver area this time. The Rapids were put to the sword by Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer, as the on-loan player scored 2 goals as Orlando City prevailed 3-1 last season.

Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni will have the majority of his squad at his disposal, along with a rested team, as MLS is in the midst of a break for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Should Colorado win the match, they would find themselves with a home game against Atlanta Silverbacks, who won over Real Salt Lake on Sunday.
