Colorado Rapids defender Brenton Griffiths, a second year pro out of the University of South Florida, was released on Wednesday ending his two year stay with the Rapids. He made one appearance for the club in 2013, earning only a single minute of playing time, but overall saw the bulk of his time playing for the Rapids reserves.
When looking at the depth chart in defense, it was hard to see how Griffiths was going to get playing time at any point. In front of him were Drew Moor, Shane O'Neill, Marvell Wynne, Chris Klute, Marc Burch, Thomas Piermayr, John Neeskens, Grant Van De Casteele and Gale Agbossoumonde. Griffiths was taking up a coveted international slot as well, and his release may show that Colorado are looking towards the July window. Assuming that this is the case, the IS will come in handy as the Rapids look to bolster the roster.
What are your thoughts? Will you miss Griffiths? Let us know below!
