It was not quite the ugly display of soccer as it was in the first match, but Colorado Rapids tied again with San Jose Earthquakes 0-0. Although he did not have much to do against the Quakes in Commerce City, Clint Irwin came up huge against the Quakes and offered several Save of the Week nominee stops. It may not have been pretty, but the Rapids will take the point and get ready for Chivas USA.
Here is how I saw the match:
Clint Irwin 10
A perfect score is difficult to achieve, but Irwin was simply spectacular on the evening. He had seven saves on the evening and none more important late in the game to deny Wondo the game winning goal.
Chris Klute 7
A solid 90 minutes for Klute and he nearly netted the game winner in the first half (which he should have done better on). Very active on the left side and help to shut down the Quakes offense.
Drew Moor 7
Moor was very good on the night and although the Quakes had their chances, he was able to limit the damage that they could have caused.
Shane O'Neill 7
Shane vs The Elbow, Part Two. O'Neill was good dealing with his nemesis and was very active in the center of the pitch. His passing was good and hard to fault a guy who was in the middle against the San Jose strikers.
Thomas Piermayr 7.5
Piermayr put in a very good shift and help to set up some opportunities that, if the Rapids could finish, would have led to goals. I really like his movement on the right side.
Charles Eloundou 8
In the Starting XI and he was good on the night. He took a yellow card that ended the season for a San Jose player but he was able to generate some offense. He had six shots on the night with three of them requiring saves.
Dillon Powers 6.5
Powers returned from injury and played a solid 70 minutes in an attempt to regain fitness. Have to like his chances to put in 90 against Chivas USA this weekend.
Jared Watts 6.5
He did not get elbowed in the head! Watts again made a start against San Jose and looks more and more comfortable out there. He was very active in the center of the pitch and did well controlling the Rapids midfield.
Kamani Hill 6.5
Hill had a much better performance on Wednesday by putting in a good 90 minutes. Had a shot on target and looked much more comfortable then in his previous start.
Edson Buddle 6.5
Buddle did well in his hold up play against the Quakes and came very close on several occasions to scoring, but just could not find that final touch. He is close though to getting his 100th.
Gabriel Torres 5.5
I know that strikers need to find that rhythm and I think when he gets his first, the goals are going to come flying out of him. He just did not have it against San Jose, but he is a player that needs more PT to find his groove.
Substitutions
Nathan Sturgis 6.5
Came on for Powers for 20 minutes when the Rapids when into shutdown mode. Did well to help prevent the Quakes getting a game winner.
Dillon Serna 6.5
Came on for Eloundou and played more of a defensive role to help preserve the point.
