Today was a big day for the United States Mens National Team as Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann named his 30 man preliminary roster for Brazil. There were the usual batch of perceived "snubs" and players that you knew were going to be there, and unfortunately no Colorado Rapids were named to the squad. Here is that 30 man roster:
GK: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Nick Rimando
DEF: DeMarcus Beasley, Matt Besler, John Brooks, Geoff Cameron, Timmy Chandler, Brad Evans, Omar Gonzalez, Clarence Goodson, Fabian Johnson, Michael Parkhurst, DeAndre Yedlin
MID: Kyle Beckerman, Alejandro Bedoya, Michael Bradley, Joe Corona, Brad Davis, Mix Diskerud, Maurice Edu, Julian Green, Jermaine Jones, Graham Zusi,
F: Jozy Altidore, Terrence Boyd, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Aron Johannsson, Chris Wondolowski
A solid group of lads and should do the US proud in Brazil. But here at Burgundy Wave we are not judging who was selected or was not selected, more of a look at who from the Burgundy Boys could be representing the Red, White and Blue in 2018 an 2022:
GK: Clint Irwin: I know there is discussion about the "heir apparent" to Tim Howard, but if Clint Irwin is not in the discussion for a spot in 2018 and 2022, then something is wrong.
DEF: Chris Klute, Shane O'Neill: Both Klute and O'Neill were called into the January 2014 camp and should be involved in camps going forward. One, if not both, could/should be on the plane to Russia in 2018.
MID: Dillon Serna, Dillon Powers: I can't see how Powers is not involved very soon with the national team and Serna should be in rotation by 2018.
Pretty amazing stuff thinking about the young talent on the Rapids and what the future holds. Is there anyone we missed? Add your comments below and let us know!
