2014 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup - Three Coloradan Teams Enter Once Again

The oldest competition in American soccer will once again feature three teams from Colorado in 2014.

The field for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup has grown the past several years, as every MLS team and then every team from Divisions I-III have been added in along with a growing number of amateur teams over the seasons. The schedule for this season is out, and it's once again the largest field in the history of the tournament. Just like last year, there will be three Colorado-based teams in the proceedings.

Just as it was last year, the Colorado representation in the tournament will start right off the bat, with the Colorado Rovers facing off against Red Force, a USASA squad from Miami, Florida, on May 7th at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch. This will be the second straight year where the Rovers will kick off Open Cup play at Shea on May 7th; they lost in penalty kicks against the Georgia Revolution last year.

The Foxes will enter during the second weekend of the competition, facing off against the Des Moines Menace in Iowa on May 14th.

As per usual, MLS teams will be entering the competition during the fourth round, which means the Colorado Rapids will start their Open Cup play somewhere between June 10th and 18th.
