Rapids Release Protected List

With the expansion draft coming on Wednesday the Rapids released their protected list.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The 2014 off-season was poised to always be an exciting one for the Colorado Rapids.  Earlier today they announced that they had traded for Michael Harrington from Portland Timbers and this comes on the heels of 11 players not having their options picked up for 2015.  And lest we forget the trade shocker of seeing Joe Nasco sent to New England this afternoon. With Orlando City SC and New York City FC coming into Major League Soccer, all teams were required to have a list of players that they were protecting from an expansion draft.  The Rapids released their list today and the following players are protected:

Davy Armstrong, Deshorn Brown, Caleb Calvert, Marlon Hairston, Michael Harrington, Clint Irwin, Zat Knight, Nick LaBrocca, Drew Moor, Shane O'Neill, Dillon Powers, Vicente Sanchez, Dillon Serna, Gabriel Torres, Jared Watts.

Thus, the following players are available for selection in the Expansion Draft:

Gale Agbossoumonde, Carlos Alvarez, John Berner, Edson Buddle, Marc Burch, Tony Cascio, Geoffrey Castillion, Charles Eloundou, Kamani Hill, Dimitry Imbongo, Jose Mari, Brian Mullan, Danny Mwanga, John Neeskens, Thomas Piermayr, Grant Van De Casteele, Marvell Wynne.

Not a tremendous shocker here but there were a few surprises.  Seeing LaBrocca and Armstrong protected makes me think that they will be back in 2015 and it was being reported that Jose Mari wanted to go back to Spain:

For me the biggest shock was seeing Knight protected.  I am curious if people actually saw him play this year or not.  He was dreadful for his four matches and somehow was protected.  Like NYCFC or OCSC would have taken him.

What do you think Rapids fans?  Do you agree with who the team protected?  Let us know below!
