Is Portland Timbers defender Michael Harrington coming to the Colorado Rapids? Some internet-savvy folks at The Oregonian seem to think he is after discovering, through a glitch on the Rapids' (and other MLS teams) website that made it look like a roster page had been created for Harrington.
Here's a tidbit of their explanation of the glitch -- the rest can be found on the article:
The URL convention to look up an MLS player's bio is the same across all MLS team websites: teamname.com/players/firstname-lastname.
When The Oregonian tried to access Harrington's bio page on the Colorado Rapids website, an error message came up that read, "Access denied: You are not authorized to access this page."
Usually when a player is not a member of a team, a different message appears.
So essentially, it looks a heck of a lot like the Rapids have a player profile up for Harrington that just isn't accessible yet.
Harrington is a veteran presence in MLS, having spent several years piling up appearances with Sporting Kansas City and then the Portland Timbers. He would immediately provide an answer to the big question mark at right back that has been there for a while and accentuated with the options of Marvell Wynne and Thomas Piermayr being declined.
There's currently no word on what the Rapids might be giving up in return for Harrington, as neither team has commented and really, nobody other than the Oregon Live site has said anything on the matter. This would be where having a beat reporter could be useful, methinks.
