SB Nation ran a mock expansion draft a couple of days ago, because of course we did. Essentially, each team got the chance to pick their own protected list and then the two newest SB Nation MLS members, The Mane Land and Hudson River Blue, picked from the remaining players as they think their respective teams will come draft day.
The players that we protected, to be discussed in another post coming tomorrow, were Deshorn Brown, Jared Watts, Marc Burch, Clint Irwin, Jose Mari, Drew Moor, Dillon Powers, Vicente Sanchez, John Neeskens, and Gabriel Torres. (Remember that Shane O'Neill, Marlon Hairston and Dillon Serna were ineligible for selection.)
In the draft, the Rapids lost one player, one of the many option-declined players who I did not protect. It was Marvell Wynne, picked as the 8th selection of the draft by Orlando City SC, and quite frankly the only player probably worth using a pick on in this group. Seriously, take a look at the list of unprotected players for the Rapids here. It's an elephant graveyard.
Here was the explanation for the pick from The Mane Land:
We might have gone with Chance Myers here but New York City FC snatched him up with the previous pick. Wynne is a veteran professional with good pace and might fit in well with Heath's 4-3-2-1 formation. - MC
Would you be okay with Wynne finding a new home in Florida come draft day?
