Gary Smith, the man who led the 2010 Colorado Rapids to the MLS Cup, is finally back in the coaching game after being hired by the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL on Tuesday.
Smith hadn't been in coaching for a bit prior to getting this job. The Rapids originally sacked Smith following the up-and-down 2011 season which saw them seek a new direction for the club. He managed Stevenage of England for the better part of two seasons, but couldn't keep them near the top of the table after a nearly-successful run at the League One Playoffs and found himself out of a job there, as well.
If the Rapids draw the Silverbacks in the Open Cup again this year, that should add a bit more flair and fun, assuming that the rest is similar to the stupidity of the Rapids-Silverbacks match we saw this year.
