There have been many articles written about how changes were needed with Colorado Rapids after a dismal 2014. A number of players have left the club, new signings have arrived, and technical staff added. Today the Rapids made another move by bringing back former Rapids player Claudio Lopez and naming him Director of Soccer.
Lopez spent the 2010 season with the Rapids and while his on-field contributions were limited, he was leaned on as a leader on the pitch and in the locker room. He featured 11 times for the MLS Cup Champions and scored in a penalty shootout in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in what ended up being the final season in a stellar football career.
So what is a Director of Soccer? It looks like Lopez will be charged with helping players on a one-on-one basis specifically with their offensive finishing but will also be used to identify talent to bring into the squad. He will also work with the current coaching staff and should be visible at practices as the team builds towards the 2015 season. In addition to working with the coaching staff, Lopez will be working with Paul Bravo on the technical side of the club.
What say you Rapids fans? Are you happy to have Lopez back with the Rapids?
