Rapids Lose Wynne In Re-Entry Draft

One of the last links to the 2010 MLS Cup Championship was lost in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft

Hating the San Jose Earthquakes got a bit tougher today as they selected longtime Colorado Rapids defender Marvell Wynne in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft.  Wynne was taken by the Quakes who now have one week to offer the veteran defender a bona-fide offer and if an agreement cannot be reached, Wynne will still remain property of the Quakes.

Over his five year Rapids career Wynne appeared in 140 matches and while he did not contribute a goal during his time in Burgundy, he was a versatile defender who played both on the right side and in the center back position.  He was the Rapids starting center back for the MLS Cup title but seemed to struggle this year with the musical chairs that were played with the Rapids starting lineup.  It will be tough to cheer for him when San Jose comes to town in 2015, but here is hoping that supporters raise a pint in his honor for his contributions for the club.

In addition, former Rapids player Atiba Harris was selected by FC Dallas in the Re-Entry Draft.

As for the Rapids, they passed in this draft and none of their other players eligible were selected.  That means that Edson Buddle, Davy Armstrong, Kamani Hill and Dimitry Imbongo are now eligible to sign with MLS teams as they choose.
