Colorado Rapids need a Burgundy Reboot in 2015

New, 8 comments

When it rains, it pours! The Rapids need a reboot. They need to get a few offseason 'wins' under their belt.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

MLS introduced LAFC this past week (at least, that's their brand for now).  Under new ownership, the Columbus Crew unveiled their new brand:  the very American Crew SC (that's soccer club), bidding farewell to their Village People logo.
Whereas other clubs have positive momentum, the opposite is happening with our Rapids.  The fiasco with our sponsor's lack of payments (shall we say 'Ciao' to Ciao?), seeing FC Dallas and Oscar Pareja win their playoff game, the national media hitting due to the Hinchey-Bianchi 'conversation'--ugh, do we need to go on?

This Monday Daily Wave works to promote a positive tone for the Rapids, putting forth a realistic optimism.  So, here goes.

Yesterday, DC United lost as the #1 seed to New York.  I remind you that they were dead last by a country mile: 16 points with a 3-24-7 record.  Add a few pieces, maintain continuity among the coaching staff (with some necessary additions to assist Pablo), another year of experience under the young guys' belt, and bringing back those we lost to injury--the Colorado Rapids could well be the DC United of 2015.

In reading an article on DC United's turnaround in 2012 (yes, 2012), both President Kevin Payne and Coach Ben Olsen (himself a former gritty player like Mastroeni), look to the character and fight the players had.  But then they dropped off the table in 2013, then rebounded in 2014.

The point is, 2015 could make 2014 look like an aberration .  2009 for the Rapids stunk, but then came 2010.  We often want quick fixes to make things go well, and quick answers when things go wrong.  If only we could throw a switch!

I would like to see and hear from the front office a few things that I plan to address in the coming weeks.  I'd love to know what the philosophy is of management and ownership is in developing a consistent winning way.
