The Colorado Rapids have all but been eliminated from the MLS Western Conference playoff race. However, the Rocky Mountain club still needs to maintain some pride as the final month of MLS regular season play approaches. The Rapids are currently on a disastrous run of form that has seen the club secure only 2 points in their previous 9 matches.
Colorado (8-14-8) will play Seattle for the third and final time in 2014. Previously, the Rapids have lost 4-1 and 1-0 at CenturyLink Field in the Emerald City earlier in the campaign. Dillon Serna has the lone goal for the Rapids against Seattle this year. Colorado are coming off a 1-1 draw against San Jose in which former Rapids player Atiba Harris scored the equalizer for the Earthquakes in second half stoppage time to deny Colorado their first victory since July.
Seattle (18-9-3) are marching towards the Supporter's Shield trophy - an award given to the team with the best regular season record, regardless of conference. The Sounders also won the 2014 US Open Cup, but have their sights set on winning the MLS Cup for the first time in their history. Seattle most recently won 4-2 over Chivas USA on the weekend.
Rapids midfielder Dillon Powers, the 2013 MLS Rookie of the Year, has signed a contract extension with Colorado. Per league and team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. The former Notre Dame University standout was selected 11th overall in the 1st round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
